My passion and motivation within my art practice for over 20 years has been to tell the story of my People in various mediums. The interconnections between the People of Victoria is firm in spirit which has a distinct uniqueness. This can be found in stories and in history, much of which has been unrecorded in mainstream terms but strongly survives in oral and cultural environments. It is through these foundations of my culture that reinforce the spirituality of our People and the reality of their experiences which captures a truth of understanding and distinctive qualities collectively. I was reconnected with my family after 27 years of my life. I was 18 when I began my art studies. This gave me a chance to question, set my own path and seek an integrity to learning about a history which I did not learn throughout my formative years of school. I was fortunate, the researching and questioning continued and I discovered that there was a rich and vibrant culture that existed in which I was part of, ‘the oldest living culture in the world’. Today I continue to learn and be guided by my Elders. I am still learning the stories from the Old People, still experiencing elements of life which I am privy to are thankful for. To bring back the significance of our Peoples’ lives and sites into the lives of others is vital for its survival and documentation. So much is there to revitalize and breathe life back into with respect to all people. The past, present and future is connected through our lives and those of our Old People and future generations. We have a responsibility for this for our People and the wider community.
