Location: ether ohnetitel gallery, Napier Street Fitzroy, Victoria, Australia
Installation by Ernie Althoff. Exhibited as part of “Earwitness: Excursions in Sound” curated by Sonia Leber, 18 November - 27 December 1994. Text reprinted from Earwitness brochure with permission.

Evoking railway imagery, Althoff’s work uses ten aluminium tube-chimes suspended to swing and be struck by rotating beaters. This creates a chance determined, ten-pitch “melody” underpinned by sounds from bamboo woodblocks and the rumble of beaters dragged over the floorboards.
