Chris Knowles has created permanent interpretive and interactive installations for museums and visitor centres, sound environments for galleries and public art works. His work spans music composition (as a performer and award winning composer for Australian short films, television documentaries and dramas), film and video production (his films and videos have been shown internationally), audio visual production and sound design for large multimedia and theatre events, and interactive multimedia design and production. His practice focuses on themes of belonging, sense of place, cultural identity, diversity and heritage. He has extensive experience working with aboriginal communities as a creative collaborator and facilitator. He has created permanent sound and image installations at locations including the Aboriginal Cultural Centre at Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park and the Museum of Victoria. He lectures in media production at the School of Creative Arts, University of Melbourne, and has taught previously at R.M.I.T.’s Faculty of Environmental Design & Construction where he developed a course in the design and use of sound and projected media within architectural and landscape spaces.
