Andrew D Lyons is an audio-visual artist involved in the synthesis of spatial audio-visual worlds for performance using projection systems, screens, and either multiple speaker arrays or headphones. The emphasis on these worlds has usually been the multi-layered abstract relationships that can exist between spatialised sound and imagery. While these works are generally designed in a generic way to be superimposed over any environment, original works which integrate ecologically with a particular environment can be commissioned. Andrew is due to complete a PhD in this area at the University of Sydney in late 2002. He is the founder and principal of a business specialising in spatial audio-visual design called "Time Space Texture". Technological Approach The work of Andrew D Lyons involves a unique system which integrates high end 3D visual effects tools with a suite of digital audio tools. Architectural designs can be imported from any CAD package to facilitate the design and animation of overlayed sounds and imagery. Imagery can be rendered which extends real world architecture seamlessly into virtual worlds. The perception that these worlds do in fact exist beyond the veil of interior surfaces can be accentuated by the integration of moving sound sources which are audible throughout the entire structure, but only visible within the windows of projection.
